Towing in Troutdale, OR: I-84 Corridor, Gorge Trips & Airport Breakdowns
Troutdale bills itself as the Gateway to the Gorge, and it earns the title. It also means a lot of people break down in Troutdale while headed somewhere else. Skiers, sightseers, concert crowds, airport traffic, and every truck running I-84 between Portland and the desert. We tow all of them.
I-84: the corridor that never sleeps
Interstate 84 through Troutdale is one of the busiest stretches of tow calls we run. Exit 17 puts you right in town, and from there it is a straight shot east to Rooster Rock, Multnomah Falls, and the whole Gorge waterfall corridor. Summer brings overheated engines in stop and go traffic. Winter brings ice and high wind warnings through the Gorge that catch drivers who checked the Portland forecast and assumed it applied out east. It does not. If you lose it on I-84 between Troutdale and Corbett, get off the travel lanes if you can, hazards on, and stay in the vehicle.
The Historic Highway, Edgefield, and the waterfall crowds
US 30, the Historic Columbia River Highway, is the scenic route and the slow one. Tight curves, sheer drops, bicyclists, and tourists stopping dead in the lane for a photo of Vista House at Crown Point. Rear end collisions and dead batteries at the Women's Forum viewpoint are a regular thing. Then there is McMenamins Edgefield, which packs the parking lots for concerts and events all summer. Nothing ends a night out like a car that will not start in a dark lot at midnight. We run those calls constantly.
Troutdale Airport and the Sandy River side
Troutdale Airport keeps a steady flow of pilots, students, and crew in the area, and the roads around it see their share of fender benders. South of town, the Sandy River crossings and the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Site pull swimmers and rafters in summer, which means locked keys, flat tires on gravel shoulders, and the occasional vehicle that slid somewhere it should not have.
